Hey guys remember when people started ace discourse on a post about the gay pride flag that was honoring the creator, who had just died? Because I sure as hell do.
Didn’t they say it was divisive since aces bi and trans people weren’t community members yet even though the flag was made in 1978 when both bi and trans people were already in the community and aces aren’t lgbt for being ace???
1978
LGB was the most popular acronym less than ten years ago in Australia. idk about anywhere else, but, dear god cis exclusionists and the “alliance of SGA and Trans” shit like this still isn’t a functional alliance by any standards. it’s 2017 and i still have to give a trans 101 any time i enter predominantly gay LGBT spaces
idk about when exactly bisexuality even became a term or made it into the acronym but I’ve got a strong suspicion 1978s a fucking stretch to say their inclusion was in any way agreed upon by then
like… the flag doesn’t cover everyone. it’s good shorthand but it’s not an umbrella. even lesbians get a separate flag this isn’t even new
I’m trans obviously the flag made by an American, and our community in america has been trans inclusive since the 60s. Why don’t you do a little research. And isn’t you country so massively homophobic that gay people literally started a country while also being literally 15 times smaller in population??? Lesbians and bi people have there own flags because gay men were very dominant in the community early on and they wanted representation
that micronation is made up of one dude on an island? we also have the Hutt River province, another kingdom made up by a guy as a tax loophole, with a population of him and his wife, it’s ? micronations dude they aren’t real. you guys literally have Texas trying to cecede again and half your other states bending over backwards to criminalise gay marriage? we’re run by conservatives here but so far they aren’t bad enough to actually spout nazi propaganda so? god maybe both our countries are homophobic? maybe?
the 60’s. Trans wasn’t a word yet by the 60s, we were called transvestites back then, and called ourselves “full time” to distinguish ourselves from “part time"crossdressers.
The 60’s was the decade before TERFism became a thing, who caused quite a few years when there wasn’t a T. The ‘70s and ’80s was when 2nd wave feminism was at it’s peak and TERFism was the most mainstream feminism there was. There was no trans acceptance in the community at this time unless you were okay with misgendering yourself, trans women had to call ourselves gay men and trans men only got acceptance if they called themselves butch lesbians. terfs are still saying we all should go back to before the T was in the acronym so when the fuck did that happen, the ’50s? 20 years before terf ideologies existed?
the 80s is when we had to reclaim the word queer exactly because there was no trans acceptance or T in the acronym in any use by then
so the flag is for gay men? it’s settled it’s not an umbrella. and, if you want a flag that represents a community that trans people have never been removed from and one that has any reason to exclude aces, you should make that flag yourself and give it a name because that community sure doesn’t exist yet.
