Seriously, though, seeing Liam O’Brien and Mark Hamill and the McElroys all maintaining that “you, our audience, are an essential part of our art, your interpretations matter, if you see yourself in this character and want to make them yours’ in some way, that is totally valid” has just been so healing to me. 

It’s been such a nice change of pace from other male creators who will “well, actually” you if they think they’ve given you the slightest hint that their character might be queer or neurodivergent, or who fuss and wring their hands about ways to “””naturally””” make a character those things.

And it just gives us more evidence that those other creators can and should do better by us.

EVERY single fucking Daily Mail anti-trans headline that pretends that it’s So Concerned For The Children is essentially just a bunch of dogwhistles and code words for “transgender minors should be forcefully detransitioned so that they can be more easily broken to the will of their abusive parents”. The idea of trans teenagers that pursue transition out of their own free will is anathema to the conservative worldview both in that they truly desire to will transgender people out of existence, but also in that the idea of teenagers exerting any free will and defiance of parental authority is horrifying to editors and readers who believe that children are meant to be their parents’ property.

an 11 y/o autistic kid escaped from a “care” facility and got hit by a train and it’s all over the news and i read the comments and some of them are straight up victim blaming the kid for escaping, and those people are fighting w people whose stance is that there should have been more guards, more people on shift, basically a more dehumanising situation overall. only 2 or 3 people i saw said the fucking obvious like, It’s Not A Fucking Prison. children don’t feel the need to escape if they’re not being abused, if they’re fucking safe.

but also like, i don’t know anything about this kids disability or development or anything and i can’t be authoritative on whether or not they could understood rail crossings and rail safety. but kids don’t want to die. they don’t come up with that idea on their own. it’s also… questionable that a kid could independantly figure out how to escape a facility run by adults, and just happened, to die because they couldn’t piece together that incoming trains are deadly. like, disability is complicated and i fully get that some things can seem simple but be difficult to grasp and others seem difficult and just make more sense to some people. but also I don’t think i can trust mainstream reporting to piece together something that makes ableism Look Bad
