On one hand there might be a higher-than-average percentage of autistic people among trans women, on the other hand Iโm not thrilled for neurotypical cis people researching any correlation that might exist before they learn to discuss autistic and trans people in a way that isnโt the most dehumanising shit imaginable. In my opinion.
I really hate it when parents of autistic kids use phrases like โI know theyโre in there.โ Bitch theyโre right in front of you! You havenโt lost them! Theyโre not locked away like a final boss in a video game!! This is your child As Is! Love them for who they are not what you wish they would be! Fuck!
Me intellectually: totally understands meltdowns and overloads
Me @ myself anyway: what kind of immature idiot am I, crying because thereโs people and Iโm tired? Literally no adult ever has done this besides me
[id: joey from friends pointing at himself on tv. the pointing joey is labelled โmy autistic self-projecting assโ and the one on tv is labelled โkinda weird/quirky characterโ. end id]
Enough with the โAutistic with a hidden talentโ stereotype.
I get why Allistics thought it was a good idea. Maybe they meant to say โjust because youโre Autistic doesnโt mean you canโt have skills, look at Rain Man!โ
Iโm sorry, as an Autistic person I have license to say that it completely backfired.
Youโre not saying โAutistic people can be smartโ any more.
Youโre saying โAutistic people owe us some sort of super talented to exist.โ
Autistic people do not need to be geniuses to be valid (and Iโm a top student myself, but I can still see the problem in this). Autistic people do not need to prove themselves to be extraordinary, or โwork twice as hardโ to get basic respect.
Autistic people do not need to be extremely talented in order to be appreciated, pass it on.
Weird behavior is not okay because weโre autistic! Itโs okay because itโs harmless! If an NT wants to flap or carry a teddy bear or wear ear defenders, they can have at! We need to break down the system that suggests harmless deviation from the norm is wrong, not excuse specific deviations!
