a collection of star trek themed flat earth memes iβve found on google images. i think about these a lot
[captions: 1st image: Jean Luc Picard face-palming. text reads: βthey still think the mars rover is realβ, written in all caps black impact font with an orange outline, for some reason.
2nd image: Picard making an exasperated gesture reaching forward. text reads: βfor crying out loud, gravity is density you foolβ, in blue all caps.
3rd image: a diagram of the earth and moon. There are two red force arrows labelled gravity, pointing from the earth to the moon and vice versa. On the moon is a blue arrow pointing perpendicular to the earth, labelled βmoonβs speedβ. Below the diagram is another picture of Picard making an exasperated gesture. text reads: βso the moon is pulling on the earth, and the earth is pulling on the moon. why are they not crashing into each other then!β
4th image: the picture of Picard face-palming. In white impact font reads, βYou canβt see the curvature, because thr earth is too bigβ¦ but you can see ships sailing over the horizon.β red text reads, βyou live on a plane not a planetβ.]
Chris Hedges on America entering theΒ βTrump Phaseβ of late capitalism
On the one hand, itβs the end of capitalism. On the other hand, itβs taking us out with it.
[Caption: a gifset of Chris Hedges at a podium saying, βThe final stages of capitalism, Karl Marx predicted, Β would be marked by global capital being unable to expand and generate profits at former levels. Capitalists would begin to consume the government, along with the physical and social structures that sustain them. Democracy, social welfare, electoral participation, the common good, and investment in public transportation, roads, bridges, utilities, industry, education, healthcare, and the protection of the ecosystem would be sacrificed to feed the mania of short-term profit. These assaults would destroy the host. And this is the stage of late capitalism that Trump represents.β]
[Caption: Gifs from Community. Craig motions with his hand and says,Β βAbed, youβre special. Canβt you just stand at the scene of the crime and see what happened?β Abed says,Β βI see a manβ¦Using a social disorder as a procedural device.β Abed looks around the room as he continues,Β βWait, wait, wait. I see another man. Mildly autistic super-detectives everywhere. Basic cable. Broadcast networks. Pain. Painful writing. It hurts.β Abed then walks out of the room.]
If that photo doesnβt terrify you then you donβt understand whatβs going on
This photo is more threatening than the ones where they were being pulled out of their chairs and zip tied
[Tweet from ADAPT reads, βhe had them sent to jail without their wheelchairs clearly senator portman doesnβt care!β
Image is a police officer pulling an empty motorized wheelchair (mobility scooter?) down the street. Another officer and empty chair are in the background.]
Imagine if theyβd kept an able-bodied prisoner in a jail cell but kept their legs (and possibly their hands) bound, so they couldnβt stand up, move around in the jail cell, get out of bed or off the floor.
That would be considered inhumane, and torture, right? If that news got out, humanitarian organizations like Amnesty International would be up in arms. You know they would.
Thatβs what it means when you take away a personβs wheelchair. Thatβs why itβs terrifying. But because itβs happening to disabled people, no one except the victims is noticing.
Also note: Power mobility aids like those in the photo can cost as much as a brand-new automobile. And if they get damaged because the authorities donβt know what the hell theyβre doing (or they do know, and are motivated by spite or malice), then the person will be just as helpless after they get out of jail.
And Medicare will not replace a damaged or broken wheelchair unless itβs at least five years old.
Now imagine being helpless in a jail cell, unable to move, and havingΒ that worry in the back of your mind.
[image description: A tweet from @ charanderson98 that readsΒ βInnit weird how when ye hate someone everythin they post pisses u off like they tweetΒ βi love soupβ n ur like aye a bet ye fuckin doβ Translation just in case voiceover couldnβt read that:Β βIsnβt it weird how when ye hate someone, everything they post pisses you off, like they tweetΒ βI love soupβ and youβre likeΒ βAye I bet ye fuckin doβ]
