materialism is about exclusively referring to things by virtue of their physical properties and then getting confused as fuck as to why humanity assigns more value to a few metals more than others, and the more confused you are the more materialist it is

this has been bugging me for ages does the materialist qualifier in “materialist feminist” actually have a definition? bc the majority of people i see IDing with this are terfs and it seems to be a synonym for their “you can’t argue with objective reality” & “trans oppression is immaterial” schtick as if that’s anything but an ego stroke. “im actually a Perfectly Objective feminist”
but I’ve also seen trans women use it and in that context it sounds like it’s somehow related to marxism (or inspired by?) and basically i have no idea what this term means when not used explicitly for transmisogyny. basically: where can i find a beginner’s guide to materialist analysis, how does it separate from other oppression analysis and, how can it mean anything at all when two nearly antithetical groups can read into it and decide it suits them both perfectly
