Rules will force some women to undergo hormone therapy that could adversely affect their health; will disproportionately affect women from developing nations who do not conform to Western standards of femininity; and will ultimately lead to some elite women quitting the sport.

This is directed at Caster Semenya. She is a cis black woman, (who has naturally highish levels of testosterone) and she is an incredible athlete. This is misogynoir and transphobia all wrapped up in one shitty package backed up by shitty science and nowhere near enough data. It is a moral and ethical failure by the IOC, and it cannot go uncontested.
Since the impact of testosterone is understood by most sports fans in
the context of PED controversies, is it any wonder that trans athletes,
especially trans women athletes, are unfairly targeted and discriminated
against? Using performance-enhancing drugs in sports is about
deception, and the cis world still views gender-diverse folks through
that same lens.

women. Trans women should be able to make transition-related decisions
about their physical appearance, health, and well-being on the basis of
their desires and needs, not to achieve compliance with arbitrary cis
regulations. Much of the opposition to amab folks participating in
women’s sports is driven by the erroneous and bigoted view that amab
gender-diverse folks, especially trans women, are men wishing to
participate in women’s sports as a method of cheating. However,
regulations about hormone levels stem from the same faulty premise as
those views: that through hormone testing, an essential womanhood can be
defined, and acceptable (lesser) women’s bodies can be achieved that
are distinct from those of cis men.
[…] The biological supremacy argument, which places such value on the
importance of testosterone in athletic performance, actively harms afab
gender diverse athletes as well. Those who argue for the inclusion of
amab gender diverse people in women’s sports if they undergo hormone
therapy use the limiting and binary understanding of the differences
between men’s and women’s bodies that serve to cement cis men’s
undeserved sporting primacy. What follows from this argument is a
paradoxical understanding of afab gender diverse athletes.Consequently, sporting bodies do not develop specific policies
regulating the hormone levels of afab athletes participating in men’s
sports, because of two key assumptions. First, they assume that afab
bodies are inherently lesser than those of cis men, and are therefore
irrelevant in terms of issues of fairness or performance at the highest
levels. This argument relies on the sexism inherent in the binary
division of sport, the purpose of which is to privilege cis men. Second,
“inclusive” sporting bodies don’t regulate the hormone levels of afab
athletes participating in men’s sports because testosterone levels are
only considered to be an advantage when competing against women; the
wide variation in testosterone levels among cis men is irrelevant
because it is deemed to be “natural.”

Gentrification creates a stifling homogeneity in urban areas that makes it less suited for the everyday lives of the lower class and more suited towards the leisure and tourism of those with expendable income.
An old, decrepit laundromat gets replaced by an upscale bakery? And people are mad? It’s not that the poor hate organic vegan cupcakes, it’s that most of us don’t have a way to do laundry in our own home.
Run-down corner stores replaced by hand-made designer clothing boutiques? We don’t hate your eco-fabric shawl, but I can’t eat that for dinner after work like I could have a can of beans I grabbed from that corner store when I don’t have time to take the bus to the real grocery store after work.
What gentrification brings in and of itself is not typically bad, it’s that gentrification brings institutions of leisure and pleasure and makes it so that the poor have to go farther out of their way for basic necessities. It turns low-income living spaces into local tourist attractions. It can even create food deserts by putting restaurants, grocery stores, etc. in that the majority of the lower class cannot afford.
Imagine if someone totally renovated your house and turned it into a mini theme park – they took away your sleeping space, where you prepare food, where you clean yourself and get ready for your day, and replaced it with things that will please people who are visiting, who have their own homes they can go back to, who are here not for their entire life but just as a distraction from their otherwise mundane existence. It’s not that you hate theme parks, it’s not like you’ve never been to a theme park and vow to never visit one again. It’s just that you need to live! To survive! And the leisure of those who have more than you should not invalidate your existence.
I am glad this has made the rounds. Some people feel a dense misunderstanding or misinterpretation concerning gentrification, and I think it helps to hear a description/explanation of what gentrification is from those who are both affected by it and educated by the culture from which it hails. I and many others enjoy some of the delights of gentrification while simultaneously having their livelihoods threatened by it.

California police investigating a violent white nationalist event worked with white supremacists in an effort to identify counter protesters and sought the prosecution of activists with “anti-racist” beliefs, court documents show.
The records, which also showed officers expressing sympathy with white supremacists and trying to protect a neo-Nazi organizer’s identity, were included in a court briefing from three anti-fascist activists who were charged with feloniesafter protesting at a Sacramento rally. The defendants were urging a judge to dismiss their case and accused California police and prosecutors of a “cover-up and collusion with the fascists”.
Defense lawyers said the case at the state capital offers the latest example of US law enforcement appearing to align with neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups while targeting anti-fascist activists and Donald Trump protesters after violent clashes.
“It is shocking and really angering to see the level of collusion and the amount to which the police covered up for the Nazis,” said Yvette Felarca, a Berkeley teacher and anti-fascist organizer charged with assault and rioting after participating in the June 2016 Sacramento rally, where she said she was stabbed and bludgeoned in the head. “The people who were victimized by the Nazis were then victimized by the police and the district attorneys.”
Steve Grippi, chief deputy district attorney prosecuting the case in Sacramento, vehemently denied the claims of bias in an email to the Guardian, alleging that anti-fascist stabbing victims have been uncooperative and noting that his office has filed charges against one member of the Traditionalist Workers Party (TWP), the neo-Nazi group that organized the rally.
Some California Highway Patrol (CHP) investigation records, however, raise questions about the police’s investigative tactics and communication with the TWP.
Felarca’s attorneys obtained numerous examples of CHP officers working directly with the TWP, often treating the white nationalist group as victims and the anti-fascists as suspects.
The TWP is “intimately allied with neo-Nazi and other hardline racist organizations” and “advocates for racially pure nations”, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center. Its leaders have praised Trump, and the group claimed to bring more than 100 people to the Charlottesville white supremacist rally, where a counter-protester was killed.
