anyway Sherlock Holmes is public domain so catch me writing a story in which Holmesโ€™ seemingly timeless nature is explained in canon as Holmes being a restless preternatural entity discovered (summoned?) by the original Dr. Watson, who acted as its companion/custodian as it careened around doing the only thing that could preoccupy its wildly inhuman mind, ie, getting all up in peopleโ€™s business and freaking them out with how much shit it knows.

the Holmes entity can die, but always reappears within a generation and without fail seeking out the latest in the Watson line. the Watsons, grown savvy over time, now devote much of their time to a.) preparing the younger members of the family for Holmesโ€™ inevitable return or b.) desperately trying to get the hell out of dodge and live a normal life before it can happen to them as well.ย

just uuuuh. like a very knowing story about the inevitability of the Holmes and Watson story, centered a creepily inhuman Holmes and the long-suffering family who have spent more than a century documenting it.ย

ย #can i mention how cool it is to have a variation of sherlock holmes where he says stuff like thisย #because itโ€™s importantย #and this episode is my favourite so far because itโ€™s surprisingly accurateย #and it was just great to hear him say thisย #because sherlock holmes is of course intelligent and a modern sherlock would know thisย #and even though this holmes does have that social crass and indelicacy heโ€™s softer in some ways to the othersย #which is what makes him different and a new take and interesting to watchย #heโ€™s a rare fictional example of a character who is pragmatic and driven and a bit socially blunt but also has a firm moral intelligence tooย #just because a character can be blunt and rude and not understand that theyโ€™ve just insulted someone doesnโ€™t have to meanย #that they donโ€™t understand right from wrongย  (via teacupsandcyanide)

ok but to add on to that post

โ€œto capture the narrative aspect of the original stories, the best way Sherlock Holmes can be adapted to film is fake-documentary-style with Watson holding the shaky cameraโ€

good yes

but consider the episodic nature of how the original stories were first published, in one of the most universal means of entertainment of that day, often utilizing mild cliffhangers and building mystery over time with lurid themes

so what i mean to say, is,

dr watson would be a youtuber 100%
