trans-mom:

I’d much sooner associate with people who don’t know proper terminology and are ignorant of social justice who clearly show a character of love and help than someone who knows all the discourse and vocabulary but has the character of a tire fire, ready to consume and hurt for self gain.

Tagging and trigger-warning/content-noting ought to be a neutral act–after all, you’re only telling people what’s in a piece of content, you’re not censoring it.  But deciding which things need to be tagged is never entirely neutral.

Imagine if every time you posted a picture of your dog, people reblogged it with “#dog cn,” “#dog tw,” “#dog phobia,” “#d-word.”  And every time you posted a picture of your cat, people reblogged it with “#awww” and “#hi kitty.”

Strictly speaking, they haven’t said anything untrue or negative about your dog, and dog phobia is a real thing that exists.  But you would still get the message loud and clear that these people feel differently about dogs and cats.

i’d be really curious to know what percent of queerbaiting is

a) an intentional marketing scheme to stir interest in the project and attract certain fanbases (lgbtq people and young women) vs.

b) members of the creative team genuinely wanting to write queer characters but the corporate side of things force them to tone it down but they still leave little hints vs.

c) they legitimately did not know how gay something would come across

Do you have any tips for writing bisexual characters?

raedmagdon:

Write more than one bi character in the same story. It’s dangerous to let a single character represent All Bisexuals Everywhere™. (Same with any other character who belongs to a specific minority group.)

Does one character fall into the ‘bisexuals sleep around’ stereotype, but it feels true to who they are, so you want to keep it that way? Add another bisexual character who doesn’t sleep around.

Does one female bisexual character end up with a man, frustrating your wlw audience? Add another prominent bi woman who ends up in a sapphic relationship.

Have two bisexuals. Have three. Have twenty! Give them different gender identities, racial identities, body types, backgrounds. Real life bisexuals are all over the map, so why should you have only one?
