trans woman: *genitals are used against her to ridicule her, humiliate her and very often as an excuse to enact direct violence against her*

Growing up in an abusive household is a fucking trip dude……If you’ve never had someone angrily wash a dish at you or fold a sock in your direction then how are you gonna understand why I get nervous when you quietly do the laundry, or why I ask β€œare you mad at me?” when you set the bag of groceries down too hard? It’s a totally different way of living and it impacts you long after you’ve left the situation.

This is so important.

My heart races when I hear someone sigh and then the adrenaline takes forever to wear off. I hate having these reactions even when I know I am safe.

Now listen, you rich people, weep and wail because of the misery that is coming on you. Your wealth has rotted, and moths have eaten your clothes. Your gold and silver are corroded. Their corrosion will testify against you and eat your flesh like fire. You have hoarded wealth in the last days. Look! The wages you failed to pay the workers who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord Almighty. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves in the day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the innocent one, who was not opposing you.β€” James 5:1-6

At first I thought this was an angry Tumblr post but then it turned out to be the Literal Bible and it got 1000x better

As an Arctic researcher, I’m used to gaps in data. Just over 1% of US Arctic waters have been surveyed to modern standards. In truth, some of the maps we use today haven’t been updated since the second world war. Navigating uncharted waters can prove difficult, but it comes with the territory of working in such a remote part of the world.

Over the past two months though, I’ve been navigating a different type of uncharted territory: the deleting of what little data we have by the Trump administration.

At first, the distress flare of lost data came as a surge of defunct links on 21 January. The US National Strategy for the Arctic, the Implementation Plan for the Strategy, and the report on our progress all gone within a matter of minutes. As I watched more and more links turned red, I frantically combed the internet for archived versions of our country’s most important polar policies.

I had no idea then that this disappearing act had just begun.

Since January, the surge has transformed into a slow, incessant march of deleting datasets, webpages and policies about the Arctic. I now come to expect a weekly email request to replace invalid citations, hoping that someone had the foresight to download statistics about Arctic permafrost thaw or renewable energy in advance of the purge.

You know how people always lament the burning of the library of Alexandria? All that lost knowledge? How much greater civilization could’ve been if such knowledge hadn’t been destroyed?

We gonna keep letting that happen? πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€

The thing about how horrifyingly, lethally hot this summer is (across basically the entire northern hemisphere) is that yes, it is, and yet if I live for another 60 years maybe 40 of them are going to be hotter than this one. Maybe even that’s optimistic. Any acknowledgement of how bad it is right now is inseparable from the realisation that it not only can be worse, but absolutely will be worse.

I’m not saying anyone should be panicking, but I am saying that as a society, as a planet, we ought to be pouring resources into finding ways to keep people alive under these unprecedented conditions; it’s going to be one of the major public health and civil engineering challenges of this century, and we can see it coming. Yet instead, because capitalism, what we are in effect doing is pouring resources into finding ways to make these conditions worse.

That’s not acceptable.

people who want pluto reinstated as the β€˜β€β€β€™ninth planetβ€™β€˜β€œβ€œβ€˜β€˜ are fake fans. how many of you can name another dwarf planet? how many of you hypocrites fought for ceres, another current dwarf planet that once had it’s planet classification ripped away? it got called a large asteroid until we came up with the dwarf planet classification, you know who else is in an asteroid belt? pluto. it’s not special for a dwarf planet. it’s just the most famous.

combining dwarf planets under planets at the moment would make pluto the 10th planet out of a total 13 (and you would know that already if you really loved pluto). except that might not last very long, because there’s about 200 more candidates for future dwarf planets,
β€œand possibly more than 10,000β€³ further out than pluto we haven’t seen yet

this article going around, β€œYes Pluto is a planet”? if you read past the title, it goes onto how we tend to call even large moons β€˜planets’. the same definition (”round objects that are smaller than stars”) ends up with a total of 102 planets in our solar system. if we count ceres (the one dwarf planet closer to the sun than pluto) and only the moons bigger than pluto, then pluto comes out as the 17th planet. but that number counts earth’s moon (that moon called The Moon) as its own planet, of which β€˜moon’ is a subcategory. it’s weird. and it throws away the idea that Planets Are Objects That Orbit The Sun. and under that definition even pluto’s moon charon could be it’s own planet, or it could share the one β€˜double planet’ label with pluto.

in conclusion, tumblr, please chill about pluto. it’s been 12 years of this. we keep finding more dwarf planets and we keep learning more and more about the solar system, so it’s never going to be exactly the same as when we were kids again. i think we should definitely teach kids about it being the 2nd dwarf planet out of 5-so-far. and it might one day be classed as a planet again, but it’s not going to be as number 9, and you might have to learn a bunch more planets at the same time. but please. please my dear people who share things without reading them. if i see another viral post about pluto really being a planet without any other dwarf planets mentioned i might die

anyway with regards to the opioid addiction crisis y’all really need to learn the difference between reliance and addiction, because they’re not the same.

I am reliant on opiate painkillers the same way I am reliant on my epilepsy medication: I take a set amount twice a day in order to function normally. my condition is not curable. physio will not fix it. I do not experience any highs from my painkillers, but I do experience less pain.

this differs vastly to addiction, where the amount you take is not set, may be beyond the safe dose. It will likely cause withdrawal symptoms if stopped abruptly, as well as harming your body due to the large doses ingested.

this is why it’s terrifying to hear that restrictions are going to be tightened to the extent that it will be almost impossible to get.

that kind of β€œreform” will only push people -reliant and addicted alike – to get it from non – official sources, where you don’t know what the fuck is in there. it will make actual addicts less safe and reliant people forced to live in agony.

the way to treat this β€œepidemic” is to invest in addict help schemes, rehab centres, and offer a variety of pain management systems, not this stupid blanket ban style thing that politicians are saying for brownie points.

guess that isn’t as profitable though hm.

I’m doing a SU rewatch, got to We Need To Talk, and started wondering what happened to poof Pearl between Bitchy Legwarmers Pearl β„’ and s1 Pearl. She’s talented and careful, she doesn’t poof easily.

And sure we could totally get angsty about this, it’s Pearl and this is the time period betweenΒ β€œRose getting serious about Greg” andΒ β€œSteven”

But also, the one time we saw Pearl getting poofed it was in a training accident because she turned around to lecture and got stabbed by her own holographic robo-double.

Basically it’s a complete tossup of anywhere from β€œgot unhealthily reckless and careless trying to get Rose’s attention on a mission and was traumatically killed” to β€œabsentmindedly ate an olive and was so horrified she straight-up died”
