he was taken into the woods by someone he thought was a friend and killed. hits pretty close to home bc multiple relatives of mine, including my great-great-grandfather, were taken into the woods by their own neighbors and killed during the holocaust

We’ve all talked about how scrubbing media of all depictions is bad, tokenization is bad, false or slanderous depictions are bad and they all influence the ways people think of vulnerable people. This is common ground!

None of you fandom kids crying about “antis” are unfamiliar with this discourse, it’s basic level crap.

So why does that all disintegrate the moment the stuff you find sexy in your prons gets a tiny iota of criticism? I haven’t even said anything about your own coping responses. I’m not your therapist. It’s not my call to say if watching rape porn is good or bad for your healing process and in no way am I going to get in the way of whatever things you do privately in your own home to cope. 

But everything that literally all of us know about media does still extend to porn. The ways women are depicted in porn can still harm women as a class by priming men as a class because it’s still media, that people consume (often uncritically) like literally all other forms of media. The ways trans women are depicted in porn can still do harm! Racism in porn still does harm! Those things don’t just disappear because it’s your fave wank bank material!

And that can’t be ignored. We need to change all forms of media. Porn included. It’s all got problems. Get a grip, folks

You are worse than any white conservative cishet – at least they do not actively kill us in such masses.

One of the most important lessons I have ever learned is “don’t confuse the faith with the allegedly faithful.” This was a lesson given in the webcomic Something Positive during an arc where one of the main characters goes to a Christian themed Haunted House and gets sermoned by a bunch of ignorant, self righteous Christians who said 9/11 was caused by God as punishment for the US’ gay population. The end reveals the character himself was a Christian, who is in tears praying for the protection of all the people who have been made to feel less by other Christians simply for being gay.

Feminism is a LOT like Christianity. It’s a good philosophy, a very important one whose tenants are aimed at the liberation of women from the shackles imposed on them by society. Feminism is all about telling girls “you have CHOICES in life, you are FREE. Your life is YOURS. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.” But like any religion, there are bad people out there who claim to be feminists, yet they give this ideology a bad name. OP’s post provides a comprehensive but incomplete list of said people.

It is ALWAYS important to remember that we need to separate the ideology from its practitioners, as we separate the faith from its faithful. We need to see the VALUE of ideologies and divorce it from its applications by their practitioners. Feminists like Gloria Steinem, Taylor Swift and Anita Sarkeesian are to Feminism what ISIS and Al-Qaeda are to Islam or the KKK and Westboro Baptist Church are to Christianity: bad apples attempting to spoil the whole bunch. And like a bad apple, they need to be REMOVED as quickly as possible from the bunch, lest they spoil our bushel.

Filmmaker Lilly Wachowski (The Matrix, Sense8) has painted portraits of the 27 trans people known to be murder victims in the U.S. in 2016, for an art exhibit at Chicago’s Center on Halstead. All of the brightly-colored portraits in “Say Our Names” incorporate the colors of the trans flag and are based on photos of the victims.

She began painting them last July, she says, as “an outlet of the overwhelming emotion I was feeling in the relentless waves of mortal acts of violence against trans people.”
