Guys the reason all of us gay women are so stupid is like. We literally have no cultural touchstones. Like we have a meagre amount of books and movies and most of them aren’t realistic…all of our brick and mortar spaces-women’s bookstores, music festivals, bars specifically FOR women- are disappearing. Like we learn either by being taught (impossible because a ton of people don’t even know other wuh luh wuh where they live) or by imitating behaviour modelled by people around us (impossible because we have next to no spaces or media where that behaviour can be openly displayed). On top of that in the rare instance we DO get a gay romance it’s usually between thin conventionally attractive able bodied white women which like…describes the lived experiences of next to no one in the community and thus isn’t applicable to most people’s lives.

I thought I’d add, though, that if anyone sees the reference to disappearing physical spaces like music festivals and uses it as a springboard to mourn Michfest, you can fuck off. I’d rather have spaces like that stay dead than live while excluding trans lesbians, who are among the loneliest and most vulnerable lesbians there are. Support them unconditionally or gtfo.

when will people realize that not every lesbian is a white blonde girl with super long hair who has a “nice” body with tattoos and resides in california

black lesbians exist (incl. dark skins)
brown lesbians exist
east asian lesbians exist
indigenous lesbians exist
islander lesbians exist
latinx lesbians exist
jewish lesbians exist
muslim lesbians exist
fat lesbians exist
nb lesbians exist
lesbians who aren’t able bodied exist
trans lesbians exist
mentally ill lesbians exist
lesbians who don’t fit eurocentric beauty standards exist

and we’re not just here to be a token post on your blog. we exist and we’re real and we’re just as valid.

you can say disabled lesbians. Disabled is NOT a bad word.

sincerely,

a disabled genderqueer lesbian.

charlie brooker literally said in the post-emmys interview that he initially tried to write san junipero about a heterosexual couple and it kinda sucked and he switched them to a same-sex couple and it immediately became much better and also easier to write and he finished it with ‘so that’s my writing tip’… the only true ally

ah yes, because everything gay is automatically better. //s

it sure is bitch!

Let mga women and nb people use butch/femme terminology

We are not hurting lesbians and we deserve words to express our gender presentation.

@diary-of-a-basement-dweller You do realize that:

a) mga women were in the same fucking community as lesbians until radfems decided to politicise lesbianism?  There is no “lesbian culture” that does not include mga women, if we are talking about the past.

b) nb is fairly new thing. a lot of “women” in the past probably would have identified as nb or genderqueer if they had the terminology.

Just because we didn’t technically “exist” or were erased constantly from LGBT+ history, why should we have no right to language that’s always  been ours? More importantly, why should we be gate kept from a this language now?

This is just such a ridiculous thing to advocate for. Femme and butch just refer to gender presentation and I see no reason why we shouldn’t use them when the definition applies to us,

Seems like a good post to remind people that the term femme was originally used by a lesbian to refer to her bi girlfriend.
