left-reminders:

β€œIf you’re a fascist and anti-fascists come for you, you have a choice. You can give it up. You can go renounce what you said. You could just go on with the rest of your life and stop turning up at fascist rallies. Anti-fascists probably aren’t gonna buy you a pint and be your best friend, but they’ll move on. But if you’re a person of color, if you’re trans, or a person with a disability, or gay, or Jewish, and fascists come for you, there is nothing you can do that can make them happy, except stop existing. That’s the key difference between the far left and the far right. Anti-fascists organize themselves against those that are building fascism. If you’re doing that, that is something you can non-violently stop doing. If you’re a political enemy of antifa, you can become a friend. If you’re a political enemy of fascism, though, either they lose or you die.”

1. yes, there is such thing as β€˜too explicit for a pride parade’ andΒ

2. there should absolutely be non-sexual pride events and spaces for people who don’t want to see sexual stuff and/or naked bodies for any reason but

3. don’t let your opinions about what is or isn’t too explicit cross over intoΒ β€œwhat about the children we can’t expose children to evil degenerate sex” because that, my friend, is dangerous territory

This got more notes than I expected so I’d like to reiterate that I emphatically support the sexuality of Pride and that Pride has always been in part a celebration of queer sexuality. Removing the celebration of queer sex and sexuality from Pride is exactly what homophobes want.Β

That doesn’t mean that there shouldn’t be sex-free nudity-free whatever-free spaces, just that for every space that’s designed for people who don’t want to see it there should be a space for people who do, a demographic that does and should include teens.Β β€œWhat about the children” is homophobic rhetoric, even if you’re using the word β€˜minors’ as your buzzword substitution.Β

Not to mention that removing the sexuality from pride, yes including the kink people (who keep it much classier than any het anyway), is straight-up dangerous for anyone who doesn’t have other access to models of healthy queer sexuality and might end up using porn or fetishy depictions of sexuality as their model instead (because god knows a lot of people work very hard to hide and age-restrict any depiction of healthy queer relationships and sexuality)Β

Are there boundaries that should exist? Definitely. Stuff likeΒ β€œno sexual harassment” comes to mind. Should safe spaces for people who Don’t Want To See It exist? Of course. Should those boundaries and safe spaces entail removing the sexuality from Pride andΒ β€œwhat about the children minors” scaremongering? Hell fucking no.

I’m not going to tell you what to think. You have every right to form your own opinion on this issue. I do want to say that this is the person who you’re reblogging this post from and if that bothers you you can choose to not reblog it.Β

Oh, and if you want sex-free orΒ β€˜I don’t consent to see your naked body’ spaces to exist? Advocate for them! Get in touch with your local Pride organization! Take your tumblr post and copy-paste it into an email if you have to but translate that passion into real world action and you can make a big difference in the world
