Seeing transphobic comments might leave ppl wonder who it came from, A far-wight conservative? Or perhaps aΒ βradicalβ feminist?
Perhaps youβll never tell the difference, or maybe you can see past that rhetoric and know which group itβs coming from..
Anyway I finally made the quiz. The was actually a p low character count of the quiz, so I had to cut a lot of the quotes down withΒ ββ¦β but I tried to keep the general gist of the quotes tho.
Take this quiz from a kindred spirit blog, lol
transmisogyny cw obviouslyThis is actually hard as fuck and puts a light to terfsβ beliefs ~π±
I spend a good amount of time arguing with terfs and I only got 3/10
I got 5 out of 10, it seems most ppl get around 3-5 right ~π±
4 out of 10
I got 2/10. Iβve read through numerous terf posts on tumblr and spent hours arguing with conservative men on Facebook comment threads and I got 2/10
Just take a second to think about that-Mod Ash
I got a 50% and I was in the higher percentile

I know this is supposed to be about aces but u gotta understand, as a poc I know this type of rhetoric wayy too well

amongst humans it should only ever be a verb. u should ask yourself why u want to say βFemalesβ when βwomenβ suffices. lmao keep your animal husbandry terms the fuck away from me, satan
sex is a verb and a noun. why are you lying? i donβt want to sayΒ βfemales,β iβm forced to because if i just sayΒ βwomenβ you will act like iβm talking about males as well.
Did this person seriously never take a basic science class in grade school lmao βsex is a verbβ my ass.
buddy. i did. science defines male and female as sperm producers and egg producers. are we going to pretendβ thatβs like, okay? u donβt think βwomanβ should apply to humans as an infinitely more respectful term than producer of ova
βthis person criticises fucking highschool biology? obviously they havenβt read it the education system is flawless and unbiasedβ
see i was taught growing up that calling a woman a female is a one-way ticket to getting slapped. itβs well documented as a misogynist microaggression. itβs the language red-pillers are using to dehumanise women.
iβm not saying we must rewrite all medical literature. iβm just saying, i should be able to tell the difference between MRAs using misogynist language and TERFs using trans-exclusive language. i canβt believe i even have to type this but calling women female outside of medicine has always, always been a mark of disrespect in the english speaking world
alsoβ¦. adjective. itβs meant to be a fucking adjective like in ‘female humanβ are you straight up saying Females? like ‘that female over thereβ? thatβs disgusting language. do u call ur mother a female? i havenβt heard ‘a truly inspiring femaleβ ever. or do u say woman like people who donβt sound like a 19th century misogynist but you know just keep defending your right to sound hideously off putting

hello children
a lot of young teen lesbians on tumblr r aligning with the terf ideology without knowing properly what it stands for. so as an Older Lesbian with some 6 years of Being Out Experience i wanna clarify some things for you.
nobody is forcing you to be attracted to anyone
nobody is saying that if you arenβt attracted to [insert a trans woman name], youβre automatically transphobic and a terf. nobody is saying you have to have sex with trans girls if you arenβt attracted to them. just as nobody is saying you have to be attracted to every cis woman. and nobody is saying you have to have sex with gay girls you arenβt attracted to.
we are only asking you to respect trans women as women
and thatβs really the least you could do! trans women (trans lesbians and wlw in particular) are just other girls out here trying to survive in this hetero world. and itβs hard being a lesbian already – but being a trans lesbian is so much harder. donβt make these girls feel even more alienated, donβt contribute to the hate that is turned against them.Β
βbut i donβt wanna have sex with someone with a penisβ
if you end up never sleeping with anyone w a penis, thatβs okay. being a lesbian isnβt just about who you have sex with. itβs also about who you love, who youβre attracted to and who you date. and one day you might find yourself falling in love with a trans girl.Β
if that happens, just like in any relationship, you can negotiate your limits in sex. thereβs no point in sayingΒ βi am not attracted to trans womenβ – because it makes it seem like trans women are inherently so much different from cis women, makes you sound like you think all trans women look/are the same and like you think of women as walking genitals. which is pretty misogynist!Β
so please just donβt listen to terfs. protect your trans sisters because they need it and they will always be there to support you if you support them too.Β
there’s TERFs in the notes of this trying to explain ‘penis privilege’ as ‘no one is trying to legislate against penises’.
trans women’s penises are absolutely legislated against. bottom surgery in many places is legally mandated for trans women to be recognised as women. A few states in Australia tried to change the law just a few months ago but was shot down by conservatives. globally, it is the norm for psychiatrists and gatekeepers to only ever allow hormones and even legal name changes to trans women who are dead set on bottom surgery in the future. bottom surgery, in most countries is very rarely covered by health insurance and usually costs $20-30k AUD. This is a measure designed to do two things: uphold the sex binary and keep trans women poor. Sex work is often the only way a trans woman can make that money in a lifetime because we’re locked out of most workplaces. ‘penis privilege’ is a statement that can only come from someone who knows absolutely nothing about trans women and how the patriarchy treats us. please google how legislation affects us next time
makes a gay saving throw
critical fail. i am deeply in love and already planning my lesbian wedding
I donβt normally post tweet screencaps here, but now that Iβve got your attention: YouTube is fucking over LGBTQ content creators.
Their βrestricted modeβ (basically their age restriction settings) BLOCKS half my videos. Videos blocked include βSigns You Might Be Asexual Spectrumβ, βDating Asexual Peopleβ and βThe Person Who Sent You This is Asexualβ. Basically ALL my most educational videos on asexuality are unavailable.
I am by far not the only content creator effected. Whatever algorithm YouTube is using to decide whatβs safe for kids and what isnβt is blatantly anti-LGBTQ. Age restrictions shouldnβt be use to block sex and relationship education.
Real talk, I havenβt seen any inclusionists actually support that post that was talking about socially anxious people who are afraid of PoC supposedly not being racist. Yes, that post was trash. Itβs definitely racist to be afraid of PoC as a white person (even if your fear is connected to mental illness; mental illness doesnβt excuse racism). But likeβ¦exclusionists act like most inclusionists supported that post, when in reality thatβs simply not the case.
Like, it reminds me of that time when a minor made a really terrible post about the AIDS crisis and how ace people were supposedly wise for not having sex and gay people should haveΒ βlistenedβ to themβ¦and both inclusionists and excusionists called it out (and the op eventually apologized and deleted their blog), but exclusionists kept framing it as something all or most inclusionists would agree with.
Want to stop trans murders?
Want to stop trans murders?
Stop shaming men who like us, stop calling them gay when theyβre not, stop watching dudes play us on screen.
Yes, itβs actually a deeply complicated and nearly intractable set of issues at the dangerous intersection of race, class, homophobia, misogyny, and economics, but the thing that most people can DO, right now, no matter who or where they are, is really that simple: stop shaming the men who like us, stop letting us be portrayed by men.
After years of thinking on this issue, listening to survivors of assault, reading the reports, talking to countless trans women/sex workers, thatβs the heart of this. Straight men kill trans women partners because other people, and culture as a whole, says itβs gay, less masculine, to be with us.
So shut it down. Shut down every person or conversation that claims trans women are βreallyβ men, every media depiction with men playing us.
If y’all have other ideas, Iβd love to hear them. Iβve seen endless βstop trans murdersβ posts but no suggestions as to how, or any accountability.
my biggest pet peeve wiht the english language is that you donβt have sin/sina
in swedish if u have two people who use the same pronoun u can always tell whos doing what bc its likeΒ βhan tog sin vΓ€skaβ (he took his[own] bag) andΒ βhan tog hans vΓ€skaβ would be that he took the other persons bag
but in english its like if u have 2 ppl w/ the same pronoun:
βshe took her bagβ whose bag????WHose BAG was it her OWN bag or the other herβs bag??????????????
βhe ate his donutsβ were the donuts his own???? did he fucking eat someone elses donuts??? YIU DONT KNOW bc english is a bullshit languageΒ
also known as, the gay fanfiction dilemma
We have the same problem in portuguese
Thatβs very cool. I want this -own pronoun.
The obscurity mentioned in the OP doesnβt exist, though. If itβs unclear what antecedent a pronoun refers to, itβs an error. Itβs an error that happens a lot, for sure, but itβs improper English grammar when it happens. Thereβs a page on this here.
In most cases, itβs pretty clear, though. In the above, without any other framing to confuse the situation, the donuts are his own and the bag is her own. The pronoun must refer back to an antecedent, andΒ βheβ andΒ βsheβ in each example are the only available antecedents.
(Thatβs not to say that sin/sana might not allow more flexible sentence structure. Itβs just that unclear antecedents should not be a thing in properly constructed English.)Β
You *could* clarify by usingΒ βownβ. Like,Β βShe took her own bag.β It would sound awkward because itβs grammatically unnecessary, but it would clarify the situation if it *was* something where you were finding it confusing.
Iβm under the impression that this is notΒ βimproperβ grammar. If you mean improper in a prescriptivist way, then yeah, this seems like one of the more useful arbitrary rules Iβve seen. But I certainly donβt register anything as ungrammatical in the above sentence.
@allthingslinguistic care to share anything?
Yeah, this is a prescriptivist error. Unlike many prescriptivist errors, this is probably actually good writing advice (you generally donβt want to confuse people!), but thereβs nothing GRAMMATICALLY wrong with being unclear.Β
In fact, constructions like this are used in some areas of linguistics to demonstrate several interesting things about pronouns. For example:Β
Every girl loves her mother. β>Β βherβ can refer to every girlβs own mother, or to some specific other female personβs mother, itβs ambiguous.
Her mother loves every girl β>Β βherβ can only refer to some specific other female personβs mother, not every girlβs own mother.Β
Every girl is loved by her mother β> βherβ can refer to every girlβs own mother, or to some specific other female personβs mother, itβs ambiguous.
Her mother is loved by every girl β>Β Her mother loves every girl β> βherβ can only refer to some specific other female personβs mother, not every girlβs own mother.Β
Iβm not going to recap all of Binding Theory here, but hereβs a link to it on Wikipedia and if nothing else, youβll notice that there are tons of examples of ambiguous pronouns!Β
Even more interestingly though, this puts us onto looking at how other languages solve the gay fanfiction problem. Β
For example, in French,* third singular possessive pronouns donβt make any distinctions for the gender of the person they refer to (i.e.Β βher bookβ and βhis bookβ is both βson livreβ). Β
Youβd think this would make French fanfiction confusing regardless of the gender pairing, but in fact body parts are customarily referred to with the reflexive/indirect object pronoun + definite article, so rather thanΒ βelle prend la mainβ (she takes her/his hand) you getΒ βelle se prend la mainβ (literally, she takes the hand to herself; idiomatically, she takes her own hand) versusΒ βelle lui prend la mainβ (literally, she takes the hand to him/her; idiomatically, she takes [other personβs] hand).Β
I donβt think you can do this with things that arenβt body parts though, so something like βelle se prend le livreβ is not a good French sentence – youβd have to say the ambiguous βelle prend son livreβ (she takes his/her book). So French is doing okay at M-rated gay fic but Swedish is still winning at Gen fic.Β
*I think most of this (maybe all?) is true for other Romance languages as well, but French is the one I speak best.Β
HOWEVER, languages that have logophorsΒ give Swedish a run for its money. Hereβs Ewe for example, shamelessly cribbed from Wikipedia since I donβt speak any languages with logophors:Β
Kofi be  yè-dzo
say LOG-leave
βKofii said that hei left.β Β ΒKofi be Β e-dzo
say pro-leave
‘Kofii said that he/shej left.βAs we can see,Β βKofi said that ye leftβ means that Kofi himself (i.e. whoever the speaker is) left, whereasΒ βKofi said that e leftβ means that someone who is not Kofi/the speaker left. Logophors refer to a type of pronoun that is only used to refer to someone who is the same as the speaker.Β
So Ewe does not solve the gay fanfictionΒ βhe took his handβ problem as far as I can tell, but it does beat Swedish at the perhaps even more important βhe said that he loved him, but the only thing wasβ¦he didnβt love him backβ angsty gay fanfiction problem.Β
