“mogai tumblr made it hard to figure out my gender/sexuality when first coming out”

consider: You don’t have to have a vendetta against queers with the “weird” genders and sexualities, especially teenagers, because you used to consider yourself one of them

also consider: the answer to “my identity was hard to figure out” is not to make it harder for other people. erasing other people’s identities will not make your own more visible. MOGAI people actually quite often find it helpful to have words for their identities, like yourself, and everyone else in the world

also consider: your anger is misdirected. heteronormativity hurt you several billion times more than the split attraction model ever could. No one who IDs as frostgender has the social capital to gaslight and coerce children from birth into a gender. straight and cis people are 100% to blame for the shame we’re made to feel for our identities and placing blame on young queers achieves nothing but furthering that shame. there is no good political goal that can be achieved by bullying mogais you nasty fucks

also, the mentality that “evil mogais forced me to identify as stargender and repressed my identity” is so … off-base? since p much everyone i’ve met with a “mogai” identity or shares a similar mindset/attitude is 100% supportive of and acknowledges the occasional necessity of changing how you identify?

like the whole “pick an identity and Stay There and if you change you’re Disgusting and Wrong and Shameful” is much more a mainstay of proponents of respectability politics (eg. regs, gatekeepers, truscum, and the like) who Hate mogai identities so in all reality, it would have been holdovers from those groups that hurt you, not experimenting with your identity

anyways i was convinced that i was some fun variety of mixed up confusing terms when in reality i was so fucking self conscious i couldnt even fantasize abt other people being attracted to me. instead of, like, working on self image i just told myself i was lithosexual and ignored the very harmful effects that this had on my self image and self esteem.

and i’m really glad, it sounds like you’re in a much better place now! but from your tone and shit exclusionist blog I’m realising this was an attempt to disprove me? when you just said this was all the cause of your own low self esteem. it’s right there. so do you think lithosexuals are to blame for your self esteem issues, or do you want to read the post again until it clicks in?

being gay doesnt excuse you from being transphobic and racist lmao whoops

being trans or gay doesn’t excuse you from being racist, aphobic, bi/panphobic, xenophobic, ect.

being marginalised in one way doesn’t prevent you from contributing to the marginalisation of others.

What the fuck do you mean with “aphobic”? you do realise that it would mean “someone with lack of phobias”, right?!

and homophobia means a fear of human beings

it’s almost like English words take on their own meaning outside of Greek grammar

REGs are not here for LGBT people either.

necromin:

REGs are really, really not here for us any more than they are my ace and aro brethren, my friends.

REGs are bigoted against gay, lesbian, bi, pan, and trans folk as much as they are any other queer person out there.

If you tell a lesbian she is not allowed to see herself in the media she consumes because she doesn’t have or want enough sex for you, you are bigoted against lesbians.

If you tell a trans individual the way they experience /love/ being shown in media is too dangerous, too toxic, too hard to understand for the mainstream, you’re a transbigot.

If you treat me like I’m Gay Lite because my romantic relationships are different from yours, because I don’t have enough sex for my opinion to really matter to you, for you to talk over me and my experiences, you never supported my identity in the first place.

If your desire to see LGBT people represented in media, in society, and in discussion about our community is conditional at all, you’re not here for LGBT people.  You do not care about the diversity of our experiences.

You don’t just hate /certain queers./  You hate LGBT people too.

robotbisexual:

The whole “kids can’t be ace” is disturbing on a totally different plane.

Like, it could very well be truscum like fear springing up of “ meh meh meh too many identities ur all just trying to be cool when you’re really not these identities,” but the other option, which seems really fucking obvious to me, is that these people clearly don’t see asexuality as a real orientation. They think of it as some sort of cult that aces are initiating people into or some bullshit.

I don’t know how you can divorce this logic from its homophobic origins, but there it is. They push these ideas that learning about asexuality will somehow brainwash kids into identifying as ace. They think kids exposed to one of many options somehow will convince them to pick this one, or that aces are somehow recruiting lmao.

Someone identifying as ace has good fucking reasons. They have to recognize a difference between them and the people around them to even be looking for a label, and age doesn’t make that label any less useful in their situations. Ace kids are going to identify as ace.

The others who you seem to think are adopting “new” identities willy nilly because somehow the stigma of it makes it appealing (???) are certainly no more likely to choose asexuality over any other identity.

Its disturbing, because it’s clear y’all think two things: that asexuality is a club they’re “recruiting” to, not a real inborn identity that people have no control over just like any other orientation, and that its not an identity people should be using ever regardless. That people should not learn about it even if they are ace.

People, of any age, have a right to choose the words to describe their experiences, and people looking for those words have the right to be educated about them. I don’t know who died and made you decide you could be the grand judges of what realities people are allowed to learn about, but restricting access to identities in some sort of power play is directly from the book of your oppressors and nothing else. It won’t stop aces from realizing themselves; but it WILL make a bunch of young people confused, ostracized and alone, much longer than they need to be.

yo1te:

Okay so y’all remember that scene from x-men first class where Mystique and Proffessor X are at the bar and he’s making small talk with a girl with heterochromia and she says she’s “mutant and proud” and Mystique almost kills a BITCH? that’s basically all you need to know to understand why so many of us lgbt folks wanna snap a mf’s neck when someone who is “aromantic heterosexual cis” says they’re q*eer.

Heterochromia must have gotten her some kind of name calling when she was a kid, but her parents loved her the same, never questioned if they should just get her to eye-color changing therapy. The school stood for her, probably, and she’ll be okay getting a job, and if she ever gets sick no doctor will refuse to help her because of her heterochromia. Mystique, Bobby, Kitty, Rogue and others, however, are not in so much luck. They get kicked out of their families, made to feel like they’re abominations by every single news platform, the goverment has made a cure that they want to force them to take in order to make them normal. No jobs for good ole Raven, ofc, if they find out about her original form. Same for Nightcrawler, who can’t even pass for a non-mutant in the first place. So, Charles Xavier builds his institute for mutant children and adults to have a comfort place to get education and medical help, as a means of giving these outcast children a place where they belong in society, free of their oppressors.

Now, imagine that same girl with heterochromia knocking on the instute’s door, saying she want’s in bc, technically, she’s a mutant. She’s as much a mutant as Mystique, as much a mutant as Kitty or Bobby, biologically. She’s not the perfect definition of normal by society, so she MUST have a place in the institute. Now this girl was never seen as predatory her whole life. Sure, some people might have told her mean things, but just as I said, the government din’t make sure she was as neglected and media didn’t make sure she felt like the scum of society. So, of COURSE she can’t in on the institute. It’s plain out obvious. Even if she DID come in, however, what contributions to their life would she bring, and vice versa? None. It’s a pointless thing from start to finish.

Let’s go back to the “mutant and proud” thing, though. Back then, the stigma around the word mutant wasn’t as big as when the existance of mutants became widespread to the publics, so whatever, this girl couldn’t possibly know that there were real mutants and that’s just it. However, imagine it in the settings of when the cure was announced, and an entire movement of people saying “Heterochromics are mutants! Redheads are mutants! Blue eyed people are mutants too!”. Do you see my point here? See how fucking out of scale that is?

Because the government did look away when lgbt people were dying by the lot and dropping like flies. Hospitals sent them off, and it only became a problem to them when they realized that heterosexual people were, too, affected by HIV. You experience SGA and your boss finds out? Well damn, high chances are that you’re gonna be fired soon enough, he’ll just have to think up a reason. Didn’t lie and say you were straight in the first place? High chances you didn’t even get that job. Can’t pass for cis? It’s commonplace for people to beat you up in the streets, no joke, and the police won’t help.

But sure. Someone called you a plant once, so now you’re “Q*eer and Proud”

can u imagine deciding community membership by how likely we are to be beaten in the streets. if things get better for trans people and im suddenly safe in public do i suddenly have to leave activism because it’s not for me anymore?

a ‘you must be this oppressed to enter’ sign is literally the worst thing i can imagine for us as a community because its so fucking easy to erase someone’s oppression if it’s not your own? terfs are telling me im too privileged to be queer, do u think i need to fucking show myself out because someone tells me i don’t reach the oppression bar? no. so im going to listen to aces and aros about their experiences, just like i expect them to listen to mine. i really don’t get offended when people are less oppressed than i am and still want to feel accepted and i don’t get why we’re actually normalising oppression olympics here.

ameliaace:

I don’t normally post tweet screencaps here, but now that I’ve got your attention: YouTube is fucking over LGBTQ content creators.

Their “restricted mode” (basically their age restriction settings) BLOCKS half my videos. Videos blocked include “Signs You Might Be Asexual Spectrum”, “Dating Asexual People” and “The Person Who Sent You This is Asexual”. Basically ALL my most educational videos on asexuality are unavailable.

I am by far not the only content creator effected. Whatever algorithm YouTube is using to decide what’s safe for kids and what isn’t is blatantly anti-LGBTQ. Age restrictions shouldn’t be use to block sex and relationship education.

Real talk, I haven’t seen any inclusionists actually support that post that was talking about socially anxious people who are afraid of PoC supposedly not being racist. Yes, that post was trash. It’s definitely racist to be afraid of PoC as a white person (even if your fear is connected to mental illness; mental illness doesn’t excuse racism). But like…exclusionists act like most inclusionists supported that post, when in reality that’s simply not the case.

Like, it reminds me of that time when a minor made a really terrible post about the AIDS crisis and how ace people were supposedly wise for not having sex and gay people should have “listened” to them…and both inclusionists and excusionists called it out (and the op eventually apologized and deleted their blog), but exclusionists kept framing it as something all or most inclusionists would agree with.

this is the post I’m talking about, just for reference.
