you are transphobic and are contributing to mental health issues in trans people.

this is very serious victim blaming.

it is not the fault of trans people that we live in a cissexist society. we are extremely well aware that we will get misgendered.

you are doing nothing but harm trans people when you tell us things like this.

Many “gender critical” people on this website like to site a 2011 Swedish study to claim that trans women have the same rates of violence as cisgender men. This claim is a gross misreading and should be challenged whenever seen. Below I will be showing quotes from one of the researchers from the study showing exactly how wrong the “gender critical” claim is.

For starters the study found that women who transitioned from 1989-2003 did not even demonstrate a male pattern of criminality let alone anything close to the same pattern of violence. Which means that the claim of trans women being as violent as cisgender men is definitely false as a general statement for all the women who transitioned from 1989 onward.

The study as a whole covers the period between 1973 and 2003. If one divides the cohort into two groups, 1973 to 1988 and 1989 to 2003, one observes that for the latter group (1989 – 2003), differences in mortality, suicide attempts and crime disappear. This means that for the 1989 to 2003 group, we did not find a male pattern of criminality.

However we also need to look at another key distortion of the facts that the “gender critical” camp manufactured. Pattern of Criminality does not mean the same thing as pattern of violence. Even the trans women in the 1973-1988 group were not shown to exhibit the same rates of violence that cisgender men do. What the study actually does show is that prior to 1989 trans women were being convicted at the same rate as cisgender men, not for the same crimes.

As to the criminality metric itself, we were measuring and comparing the total number of convictions, not conviction type. We were not saying that cisgender males are convicted of crimes associated with marginalization and poverty. We didn’t control for that and we were certainly not saying that we found that trans women were a rape risk.

The idea that trans women are just as likely to rape as cis men is a lie. It is a lie which has become a central tenet of denying trans women access to life saving shelter and community and this lie needs to be confronted where ever it tries to take root. Whenever you see this lie, shine a light on it because it can only grow in the dark.

If anyone tries to claim that trans women are as violent or dangerous as men, they are lying to your face.

Considering the sheer number of trans women forced to do sex work to survive (which is still criminalized even now in 2015), being arrested and convicted of a “crime” in 1989 is not a good metric for whether a group is violent.

Back in 2015, the Jewish population of France decreased by 100,000 people in one year. Here’s how it happened:

  1. WHITE NATIONALIST and 45 buddy Marine LePen begins whipping up anti-Jewish sentiment

Four people are murdered and the only reason anyone survives is because a young, West African Muslim man hides people in the walk in fridge. The incident goes almost completely ignored by the press. One reporter asks a French Holocaust survivor if she thought the attacks were deserved “Because of Israel.“ 
  6. The president says he’s going to focus on targeting anti-Semitic crime. No further actions are detailed and nothing improves.
  7. French Jews begin to leave en masse for Israel and elsewhere because what would you do?

We are on step two, but things escalate from step two to step three VERY fast. I’ve said this before, but it bears repeating: Jewish people are extremely easy to target. We are only 0.2% of the world population, but we mostly live in large cities and our schools and places of worship are easy to identify. We have specifically marked cemeteries, schools, community centers. One person could strike a major blow to the Jewish community with horrifying ease. I am begging you all, don’t let this escalate to step two. I have always had a complicated relationship with my American identity, but, when it comes down to it, this is my home. I don’t want to leave.

I would really appreciate it if people would spread this around! What YouTube is doing to LGBT+ videos and content creators is affecting intersex people, and, between the lack of intersex voices on the internet as a whole and the lack of people talking about intersex issues at all, this has a huge impact on what little we’ve been able to put out there.

One of the reasons we’ve been unable to create as much as other LGBT+ groups on the internet is because the stigma against us and how strong it is. What YouTube is doing is revoking the visibility we are getting and reinforcing the stigma that keeps us hiding.

The solution here is not as simple as turning off restricted mode. This sends a message to people that who they are is unfit to be seen, especially when done by such a huge, popular company whose tagline used to be “Broadcast Yourself”. And this still affects kids whoee parents won’t let them turn off restricted mode.

Please don’t just let this get 10 notes and disappear, please reblog this and make people aware. And, if you can, I encourage you to support intersex content creators on YouTube, including Emily Quinn (Intersexperiences), Pidgeon Pagonis, and Jenn Levine. You can find plenty of other good videos if you search “intersex” on YouTube.

This is yet more evidence that YouTube’s new policy isn’t about keeping children from seeing sexual content; it’s about silencing anyone not “normal” (by heteropatriarchal society’s definition of the term).
